Good Food Listservs and CoPs

Many organizations and societies offer listservs and facilitate communities of practice (CoPs).

Here's a current list of listservs:

COMFOOD

The COMFOOD listserv was created with the intention to bring together people and organizations involved with or with an interest in community food security. This provides a forum for USDA community funded projects and the Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC). The coalition routinely posts notices about meetings, training opportunities, policy initiatives, and information from its newsletter and website.

Food Planning 

The Food Planning listserv is designed to facilitate information sharing between urban planning professionals interested in connections between urban planning and policy and the food system.

You can access the registration here

  1. Fill out your email and name on the linked page.
  2. The list is closed and your inquiry will be held until is approved by the administrators of the listserv.
  3. You will get an email when you have been approved to join the list.

 

SUSTAG

SUSTAG listserv was created to provide a way for people who are interested in sustainable agriculture to stay informed about events, research, learning opportunities, books, journal articles, or other pieces of relevant knowledge to sustainable agriculture.

URBANAG

The URBANAG listserv was created to link people and organizations interested in urban agriculture and community food security. This provides information for the North American Committee for Urban Agriculture of the Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC).

HEALTHYDEBATE

The HEALTHYDEBATE listserv provides an opportunity to discuss their ideas regarding sustainable agriculture and its intersection with politics, society, and advocacy.

The Food Policy Network

The Food Policy Network listserv connects stakeholders seeking to create a more sustainable, healthy, and equitable food system through public policy at the state, region, local, and tribal levels.

North American Food Systems Network (NAFSN)

the NAFSN listserv promotes professional development for individuals and organizations working at the forefront of food systems programing on initiatives, programs, and research. Topics include a variety of areas such as beginning farmers, sustainable agriculture, food hubs, farm-to-school, food security, and healthy eating. NAFSN provides affordable training opportunities, resources, tools, and networking opportunities for its members.

Food For Cities

The Food for Cities listserv includes themes such as: right to food, nutrition, emergency operations, production and marketing, natural resources management and land tenure, local governance, and rural-urban linkages.

Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior Division of Sustainable Food Systems

The DSFS listserv is intended for those in the Division of Sustianable Food Systems in the Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior. The mission includes promoting environmentally friendly food systems, as well as ones that are socially just, economically viable, and produce quality food. The division itself supports leadership in advocacy, education, and research through communications and networking among division members and with individuals and organizations in the public at large.

Women, Food, and Ag Network

WFAN is a google group that supports women farmers, women landowners, and women in food and farm politics.

Teaching Food Systems

Community of practice from Columbia University which convenes academics and practitioners focused on food systems education to share knowledge, create space for exchange, and problem-solve. A shared google folder and google group are available for resources and teaching materials.

Incubator Farms

The Incubator Farms listserv serves as a community of practice to facilitate discussion of farmers, service providers, and staff operating land-based incubator farm projects across the US. Resource sharing, best practices, and other guidance on incubator farm programs will be discussed.
